Magic of Sibelius, Sunday May 10, 2026, 2:30 pm

Come out for a Mother’s Day treat to experience the Magic of Sibelius at Orchestra Kingston’s final concert of the 2025-26 season, with the passionate and romantic Nordic melodies of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1.

We start with brass fanfares and the sound of galloping horses, followed by the sunny virtuosity of Orchestra Kingston’s former principal clarinetist and Kingston native, Sammy Johnston.

You’ll leave with a spring in your step and a song in your heart!

Also on the program:

  • Light Cavalry Overture (von Suppé)
  • Clarinet Concerto (von Weber)

Sammy Johnston began her musical career in Kingston, Ontario where she grew up surrounded by music. She performed as Principal Clarinet of Orchestra Kingston from 2021 to 2025, and has played with the Kingston Symphony, The Isabel Voices, and the Kingston Community Strings. In addition, Sammy is an experienced doubler, regularly performing on clarinet, saxophone, and flute in musical theatre productions in Kingston and the surrounding area. Sammy pursued graduate studies in performance at Western University after obtaining her Bachelor’s degree at Queen’s University. She has recently moved to Ottawa where she teaches high school full time.
