Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How good do I have to be?
A: We will be choosing repertoire in the moderate to challenging range
so it is a good idea to at least have 4-5 years of playing experience on
your instrument (at least grade 6 equivalent). The wind and brass sections tend to be more challenging
and require the ability to play as a soloist.
Q: Do I have to practice?
A: This is an individual decision based on your own abilities as a
player. However the overall outcome of the group performance is
dependant on the quality of the playing of individuals. The expectation
is that members will practice their parts to ensure they elevate rather
than detract from the end result.
Q: Does the orchestra have a season ticket
available?
A: Not currently however we are hoping to offer this in the near future.
Q: Where can I purchase
tickets for concerts?
A:Tickets will be available at the Church Book
Room opposite St Georges
Cathedral, Brian's
Record Option, Novel
Idea, Senica's Eastview Convenience Store (Hwy 2 East), and from individual members of the orchestra. There will be a
pre-purchase discount for any tickets bought before a concert.
Q: Who do I contact if I wish to join the orchestra?
A: The person to contact would be our personnel manager
Annabel
Mills. Please refer to our
About page to read about
membership with the orchestra.
Q: Can I make a donation to the orchestra?
A:Yes. We are a community based orchestra. At present we receive no extra grants or monies from outside agencies. So each year more than 90% of the Orchestra’s funding must be sourced from ticket sales, from the support of many individuals and from community-minded companies.
You can demonstrate your support of OK in many ways:
1. By attending our concerts. You’ll hear great performances of appealing music…and tickets are very attractively priced.
2. Join the Friends of the OK. Membership is just $25 – and you’ll be immediately helping the orchestra to greatly expand its artistic quality and reach.
3. Make an individual gift. You can help the orchestra by simply making a tax deductible donation to the OK. If you prefer, we can direct your support to fund a specific project. Contact Ruth to discuss the available options.
4. Advertise in our Concert Programs, distributed to all ticket holders and orchestra members at each concert. Rates start from as little as $42.
5. Become a Corporate Sponsor – please see Sponsorship Opportunities below.
6. Make a bequest. Your legacy – however modest – can help the OK continue or expand its valued community-oriented programs.
7. Give some of your time, to help at concerts, with marketing or other administrative tasks – please see the Friends of the OK page for further details.
